When it comes to ATT not knowing about Streisand effect, I doubt that would be the case.

Streisand effect could help both the parties' publicity, and in a space controlled by 3 or 4 companies, such publicity could help both the companies.

With debt easy to come for huge companies, they could easily play with the system with follow up ads of their own. This is another example for media chaos effect.
