Social media has set a path to skip relying too much on "famous" publications that limits opportunities to a selected few. In this changing environment, the media is going to be distinctly different in the coming years. Moreover, all those big publications had to start small, and were small at some point in time. With technology coming a long way along with open access to publications becoming common, it has given scope for talented individuals to have their own media companies for nominal investments.
