Does it mean then that ~83% (~5.8 billion) of the world population have had brain injury in some form or the other? I guess human suffering could increase one's faith, and religious affinity, but then it need not be connected to brain injury.

Would brain injury increase religious affinity? Probably, yes as humans seek for a force that would provide light and direction during tough times.

By the way, majority of the global population have faith in supreme power (god), and are not religious fanatics, independent of religion.
